Dynamic Root Floating System for Leafy Vegetable Production

  To stabilize the leafy vegetable productivity during the monsoon summer in Taiwan, a one-off patented design of Dynamic Root Floating (DRF) System for leafy vegetable production was developed by Taichung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station in 1995. The DRF Hydroponic system was designed to be combined with semi-dwarf and typhoon-proof greenhouse which resulted in annual high yield productivity. This method allows the growth of Chinese leafy vegetable of lettuce, celery, and Brassica spp all year round. The 30 to 40 hectares of DRF Hydroponic vegetable farm are found in Si-Chou, Fen-Yung, Pi-Tou, Chu-tan, Ur-Lin, Dai-Chan Si-Hu and Pu-Yen of Changhua County. The Total yield production is around 360 to 400 Metric Tons totaling NT$18 to $22 million production value.
